REDCON1 Athlete Martyn Ford sits down to answer questions about his training style, family life, supplement regimen, and MMA. Check it out now.
HOW DO YOU BALANCE WORK, FAMILY, AND TRAINING?
I organize every aspect of my life into time slots, just like you do studying different subjects in school. I have allocated slots and times and I do my best to stick with it. By planning when I’m training, working, and with my kids, I am able to get it all done.
HOW DO YOU IMPLEMENT RECOVERY?
The biggest aspect of being an athlete is taking the time to recover. Some of the tools I implement are:
- Hot baths
- Staying extremely hydrated
- Rest as much as I can
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE KEY CHANGES YOU HAVE MADE IN TRAINING FOR MMA?
Nutrition. I’ve switched around my macros slightly. I’ve decreased the amount of protein I used to have while bodybuilding and increased carb ratio because I’m burning excessive calories daily. This has allowed me to have more energy and recover faster.
WHAT HAS ATTRACTED YOU TO GET INTO MMA TRAINING?
The fact that you can challenge yourself and step out of your comfort zone every single session. MMA forced me to be the best version of me that I can. Every single week the better I get, the better my opponents get so I’m constantly learning and stretching myself and my abilities. Ultimately that’s what’s going to make you a better individual and fighter.
WHAT AREAS DO YOU NEED TO IMPROVE ON IN YOUR MMA TRAINING?
All of them.
